Hyderabad: Gear Up For Battery Powered Bicycles
The Hyderabad City Traffic Police are set to introduce battery-powered bicycles in an attempt to maintain law and order during festivals, processions and surveillance at tourist spots. The traffic police officials said they might introduce the battery powered bicycles next month. The battery-powered smart bicycle was developed by the students of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT.) The bicycle can run up to 50 Km in a single charge and has a 250 volts battery. The cycles take around one and half hour to get fully charged. The cycle has been designed keeping in mind the requirements and conditions of the traffic police. The Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. V. Srinivas Rao said while researching about monitoring the problems in crowds, processions and tourist spots the concept of battery powered cycles came up.
