A lesson

It was one of the worst days in her life. As she sat down inking the pages of her diary,  she saw her father peep through the half-open door.
"Why the hell does he do that? He always said he trusts me and yet I find him peeping in my room every now and then.  Damn this perfect life of mine!" she whisper-yelled to herself. Sighing heavily she continued writing and then she heard him again
"Baby girl,  grandma needs something,  can you help her out ?"
Urgh!! It was one of the ways he dragged her out of her room she kept herself locked in. "Yeah coming" she shouted on top of her voice making it pretty clear how pissed off she was. Nevertheless, she has to be polite with elders,  gulping down the rage she politely asked what she had to do. She then started untangling her grandmother's hair when she heard her brother "Dad,  can I buy this? " he said showing something on his phone. A smile crept on her father's face as he said " yeah,  you shouldn't keep stuff bottled up inside you. When you have a problem you should speak up and figure out the solution,  only then it'll be resolved" her brother stood perplexed wondering what he did to make dad say that. However, the baby girl knew that every word dad said was directed towards her. She kept quiet,  well aware of the situation. She acted as if she didn't hear anything.
'ahem ahem' her dad cleared his throat for the 3rd time in two minutes. Observing that baby girl wasn't in a mood to say anything, he came up straight to the point "Why have you changed? Where is my baby girl lost? I want my lovely daughter back"
She knew this was coming her way.  She had prepared earlier itself but little did she know how her father would react.
After narrating a little episode of her day,  her dad asked "Does that even matter? You're giving importance to something very irrelevant, aren't you?"
This. Was. It.
"See you don't even care. All you do is keep calling me 'baby girl'.  You think I'm still immature. I don't tell you anything because I knew you wouldn't understand it and then you'll say it was all my fault
" she spat out angrily.
Her dad smiled gently and said "I call you baby girl and I know my daughter is a strong woman. But she needs to get even stronger to survive in this world. "
She hummed in response while he continued "People will point out your flaws,  they will make you feel bad about it. They will try their best to bring you down because they don't want to see you rise. You shouldn't miss your goal. The more you react to their talks, the better ways they find to hurt you more. If you concentrate on petty issues you'll be running out of time when you have to concentrate on your life. They will just say and move on. If you keep thinking about it,  then it's you who is at a loss.  It's you who is losing yourself,  they aren't getting anything out of it except entertainment.  If you like to entertain people with your depression then you'll be the most warmly welcomed. You'll be the hot gossip topic everywhere. Learn to take stuff lightly. Don't react to useless people for they are just finding ways to see you in distress. Do you want to give them the satisfaction that they made a change in your life? No,  right! So, be happy. This is not the age to drown yourself in distress.  This is the age when you make your life. Live it to the fullest.  Don't concentrate on the bad things, instead, try to make them good rather than grieving about it. Don't search for the best,  but make the best out of everything you have at the moment. Okay, baby girl?" he said patting on her head.
She was nothing but flabbergasted.  How could someone just put the puzzle right in place in the first try!
"Okay dad" she gave her brightest smile.
"Now that's like my daughter," he said ruffling her hair.
It was a lesson about life, her dad taught her.

  1. It's amazing how parents always seem to have a solution to every problem of ours. They understand us more than anyone else and most of the time we think that they don't care or don't bother to understand. But they are only giving us time and space to solve our problems on our own like the mother bird who pushes it's baby out of the nest so that it learns how to fly. But they always have our back and are ready to pull us out of the mess we drag ourselves into at the slightest of our signs. But it depends on us whether or not give that sign. Anyways Nicely written, loved it <3
