Corruption Perception Index: What's India's Rank?

Corruption in India increases with each passing day with little or no efforts to end it. Recently, the Transparency International (TI) released the Corruption Perception Index (CPI.) The CPI ranks all the 180 countries based on their level of public sector corruption with data from experts and business people. The TI is an independent, non Governmental organization leading the fight against corruption. The TI, now present in more than 100 countries is headquartered in Berlin, Germany. The ranking is done on the basis of scores from 0 to 100 where 0 denotes the highest level of corruption and 100 denotes clean.
In the CPI for 2017, India along with Ghana, Morocco and Turkey ranked 81 with a corruption score of 40 out of 100. A CPI report released by TI read, “While corruption continues to be a rampant problem across the region, improvements will only be made if there is strong political will for change and if a comprehensive strategy is adopted, not one based on isolated actions.” New Zealand, Denmark and Finland with minimum public sector corruption, topped the list with a score of 89, 88 and 85 respectively. Somalia, South Sudan and Syria hit the rock bottom with the least score of 9, 12 and 14 respectively owing to the high level of public sector corruption.
