SSS - Scam Sinister Society

Online scams have recently boosted up in the last few years gaining quite a lot of popularity, where 5 out of 10 people get caught up in online scams and end up pouring a lump sum of hard earned money down the drain. There have been frequent cases, where the victim's bank account is hacked just by gathering personal details like location, bank account details, family details etc. Once these details are gathered, the hackers contact the concerned person luring them into revealing the OTP (one-time-password) which is used to secure online transactions, and/or other debit/credit card details. Even the banks cannot be held responsible in these cases as the victim shares the OTP voluntarily.

Further, 90% of the surveyed people in India have lost money. Regionally, the average financial loss per person is Rs 6,81,070, but alarmingly in India, the average loss reaches up to Rs 8,19,000.

In India, about 39% users have been a victim of 'work from home' scam. It is a scam whereby users are either fooled into paying someone online to help them start a business, only for nothing to materialize, or users are tricked into completing work on their computer but never receive payment for the work.

The Dating Scam stands next to Investment scams, with a gross loss value of around $20M. Now, some of you are thinking that men are more gullible in this area, but there are many cases where women have been scammed of money by their internet lovers. However, the real figures on romantic frauds are never known. Many of the victims, especially married people, prefer to keep silent.

There have been cases, where college students or even the ones around you might be a victimizer/victim of the scam. I ended up finding a scammer online while researching about the scams that occur on daily basis and which also forces people to keep silent fearing embarrassment in public or any other personal issues. This scammer turned out to be a part of a group where people pose as escorts and lure money from the victims. These escort scammers hold a promising tongue, a huge benefit for them in luring victims. The saddest part here is that young kids are lured into scamming business being showed the lust for money. These scammers work in groups, where a specific amount is collected from the victim on the pretext of setting up a high profile escort, the scammer then forwards photographs of any random female with the contact number of their female accomplice and the victim is asked to contact the person and confirm the stay. Then the victim is lured into shelling out more cash under the pretext of a hotel room booking. Once the amount is transferred to them, the scammers stop responding and block the victim's number and then the history repeats again.

This is a world which runs only on stacks of coloured papers where love/care is a mythological story.
